The Enforcement Directorate summoned Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee to appear before them on November 9 in relation to an alleged school jobs scam.

Shashi Panja, West Bengal Women and Child Welfare Minister and TMC spokesperson claims that this is a result of "vendetta politics" targeting their party's national general secretary and she also said that?the BJP is using such tactics to harass leaders in the run-up to the upcoming important elections next year.

In response, State BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya stated that the BJP does not engage in vendetta politics. He explained that the summoning by central agencies is done under the court's supervision, and if the TMC has any concerns, they can address them in court.

Previously, the ED had summoned Banerjee to appear on October 9, after he had missed the October 3 summons to participate in a TMC protest rally in New Delhi, where they demanded the immediate release of central funds owed to the state.

Banerjee, who had faced nearly nine hours of questioning by the ED regarding the teacher recruitment scandal on September 13, had argued that this was an attempt to prevent his participation in the 'INDIA' meet and to emphasize the TMC's vital role in forging opposition unity.

The two-time TMC MP had also been questioned twice by the ED in the coal pilferage case, once at the agency's office in the national capital in 2021, and again in Kolkata in 2022.

Banerjee is set to meet with the ED on Thursday.
