External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar Boosts India-Sweden Ties During High-Level Discussions In Sweden

During his visit, Jaishankar emphasized the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards strengthening India-Sweden relations and engaged in strategic assessments with Swedish officials to enhance Indo-Pacific cooperation.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Sweden to participate in the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum and conducted several high-level discussions on Monday. The Trilateral Forum was inaugurated, which included India, Europe, and the US, where Jaishankar and his Swedish counterpart Tobias Billstrom discussed contemporary issues.

During his meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Jaishankar conveyed the personal greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasized Modi's commitment towards strengthening the India-Sweden relationship.

Jaishankar held discussions with Henrik Landerholm, the National Security Advisor of Sweden, and exchanged strategic assessments of Europe and the Indo-Pacific. Additionally, he met with Dr Andreas Norlén, Speaker of the Riksdag of Sweden, and welcomed contacts between the two Parliamentary democracies and exchanged perspectives on their respective regions.

Jaishankar's visit to Sweden is his first as the external affairs minister, and the trip coincides with the celebration of 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Sweden.

During his visit, Jaishankar expressed his delight after interacting with the Indian community in Sweden, where he spoke about the progress in the bilateral relationship and transformations underway in India that enhance its global profile and create opportunities for Indians abroad.

He also had a useful exchange of views on regional and global security with Sweden's Defence Minister Pal Jonson.

After his visit to Sweden, Jaishankar will head to Brussels for the first meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council, joined by Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Piyush Goyal and Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw. The trip comes at a time when India and Sweden are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations.
