Blinken's gesture of support was deeply appreciated by Jaishankar, who is currently visiting Namibia, as they navigate through this challenging time.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reached out to Indian counterpart S Jaishankar on Sunday to convey his heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the devastating train accident in Odisha. Jaishankar, currently visiting Namibia, expressed deep gratitude for the support during this challenging time.

In a tweet, Jaishankar stated, "Thank @SecBlinken for the phone call expressing his support and sympathy on the Odisha railway accident. Such sentiments are deeply valued at this difficult time."

Blinken, earlier on Sunday, tweeted that the United States stands in solidarity with the people of India amidst this "tragic moment." He extended heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the catastrophic train crash in Odisha, highlighting the heroic efforts of first responders and medical personnel.

The accident, which involved three trains in Balasore district, claimed the lives of at least 288 people and left approximately 1,100 injured, making it one of the country's worst railway tragedies.

US President Joe Biden also expressed his sorrow over the heartbreaking news, emphasizing the strong bonds between the United States and India. In a statement, he said, "Jill and I are heartbroken by the tragic news of the deadly train crash in India. Our prayers go out to those who have lost loved ones and the many who suffered injuries in this terrible incident."

He further added, "The United States and India share deep bonds rooted in the ties of family and culture that unite our two nations—and people all across America mourn alongside the people of India. As the recovery effort continues, we will hold the people of India in our thoughts."
