IIT-JEE Aspirant From Bihar Commits Suicide In Kota; Fourth In A Row

An 18-year-old IIT-JEE aspirant from Bihar's Gaya allegedly hanged himself in his PG room, in the fourth such case of suicide by a coaching student, said the police.

Another suicide case of an IIT-JEE aspirant gets reported in Bihar’s Gaya district. The alleged 18-year-old is suspected to have committed suicide by hanging himself to an iron angle of his PG room door, sometime on Tuesday, said the circle inspector at Mahaveer Nagar Police Station, Paramjeet Patel.?

The IIT-JEE aspirant has been identified as Valmiki Prasad, the deceased teen was last seen on Monday evening, added the circle inspector. The teen had reportedly been taking coaching for IIT-JEE entrance exam at a coaching institute since the last academic session and was living at a PG in Mahaveer Nagar.?

The incident came to light at around 8pm on Tuesday, following which the body was recovered by the police and placed in the mortuary of the New Medical College Hospital (NMCH) for post-mortem- to be conducted after his parents’ arrival.?

No suicide note was recovered from the room and the reason for suicide is yet to be investigated, said the inspector. This follows the suicide cases of three other coaching students, including two IIT-JEE aspirants and one NEET-UG aspirant, in Kota, in this month alone. The toll of such cases this year since January, has gone up to 20. Last year, an approximate of 15 cases of suicide by students were reported in the coaching hub.?
