Haryana: Section 144 Revoked In Gurugram, Administration Advises Caution Amid Communal Tensions

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) was imposed in Haryana's Gurugram on July 31 amid communal violence in the district and nearby Nuh.

The Gurugram district administration on Monday revoked Section 144 of the CrPC that prohibits gatherings in the public places.?

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) was imposed in Gurugram on July 31 amid communal violence in the district and nearby Nuh.?

Sharing the notification revoking Section 144, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gurugram tweeted that "we urge all citizens to exercise caution and continue following safety guidelines".

Communal violence erupted in Haryana on July 31. The violence began in Nuh when a Hindu organisation's religious procession came under attack and then spread to Gurugram where a mosque was attacked. Five people, including two Home Guards personnel, were killed in the attack in Nuh and one person, a Muslim cleric, was killed in Gurugram. In the past week, multiple violent incidents have taken place in Gurugram as well, including attacks on shops and people.?

The notification signed by Gurugram District Magistrate (DM) asks the public to report any suspicious activity.?

The notification notes that Section 144 was imposed after "perceived threats and communal tensions" arising from the violence in Nuh and now there is no need for such restrictions as "normalcy has returned" to the district.?

Even as the district administration says normalcy has returned, communal incidents continue to take place in the district. In the early hours of Monday, a mazar was set on fire in Khandsa village in Gurugram by some unidentified people. The incident occurred around 1:30 am, as per the person who lodged the complaint with the police, reported PTI.

The FIR in the mazar arson case has been registered against unknown persons under sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 188 (disobedience of an order duly promulgated by a public servant), 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house) of the IPC, PTI quoted the police as saying
