Delhi Congress Confronts BJP Government In 'Jawab Do, Hisab Do' Rally Against Demolition

The focal point of the rally, according to Lovely, was to shed light on various issues in Delhi, with a particular emphasis on the recent demolition of houses in the slum cluster situated between the Sundar Nursery and the Delhi Public School.

Delhi Congress took a proactive stance on Sunday, organizing a 'pratigya' rally as part of its 'Jawab Do, Hisab Do' campaign targeting the BJP government at the Centre and its seven MPs from Delhi. The Hathi Wala Chowk in Karol Bagh witnessed the gathering of numerous Congress leaders and workers who voiced their concerns against the central government. Leading the rally was Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely, with the presence of senior Congress leader Ajay Maken and All India Congress Committee In-charge of Delhi, Deepak Babaria, PTI reported.?

The focal point of the rally, according to Lovely, was to shed light on various issues in Delhi, with a particular emphasis on the recent demolition of houses in the slum cluster situated between the Sundar Nursery and the Delhi Public School. Lovely expressed dismay over the situation, pointing out that over 200 families lost their homes in Nizamuddin due to the alleged misrepresentation of the slum dwellers' case by the Delhi government in court.

Lovely, who had previously visited the demolition site, criticized both the central and Delhi governments for their actions. He highlighted the demolition of 250 JJ clusters at the Sundar Nursery, despite the implementation of GRAP-III, which explicitly prohibits all construction and demolition activities. The slum cluster in question housed around 1,000 to 1,500 people, primarily engaged in occupations such as ragpicking, street hawking, domestic work, labor, and small-scale trading.
