Congress Launches Nationwide Protest Against Rahul Gandhi's Disqualification From Parliament

The demonstrations aim to denounce what the Congress perceives as an attempt to suppress Gandhi's voice and uphold the principles of justice and democracy.

Congress, accusing the BJP of employing "dirty tricks" to disqualify Rahul Gandhi from Parliament, has declared a nationwide protest in solidarity with the opposition leader. As part of the demonstration, Congress workers and leaders will stage a 'maun satyagraha' near Mahatma Gandhi statues in state capitals on July 12.

Gandhi, recognized as the staunchest and most vocal opponent of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government, recently gained attention for his impactful address during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, where he shed light on the alleged connection between PM Modi and the Adani Group, said Congress general secretary K C Venugopal, as PTI reported.

However, the Congress party claims that the BJP utilized deceptive strategies to disqualify Gandhi from Parliament, leading to an outcry against what is perceived as an attempt to stifle his voice. After the Gujarat High Court rejected their plea to halt Gandhi's conviction in a 2019 defamation case, the Congress announced its intention to approach the Supreme Court, asserting that the government is continuously seeking new techniques to silence the truth spoken by the opposition leader.

Undeterred by the disqualification, Rahul Gandhi has demonstrated unwavering resolve in challenging the ruling regime and addressing the concerns faced by India's underprivileged sections, including the poor, farmers, laborers, youth, and marginalized, according to Venugopal. He remains a trusted leader and a voice for the people, both inside and outside Parliament.

The wrongful and vindictive disqualification of Gandhi has sparked agitation not only within the Congress but throughout the nation, claimed Venugopal. In a passionate appeal, the Congress general secretary urged all 1.4 billion Indians, irrespective of political affiliations, to unite in the pursuit of justice, liberty, and the preservation of democracy. Emphasizing the party's commitment to the welfare of every Indian, he expressed confidence in the power of truth, asserting that the BJP-RSS's tactics would not succeed in the face of unwavering determination.

As a visible demonstration of their protest, all state units of the Congress party are organizing a 'maun satyagraha' near Mahatma Gandhi statues in state capitals on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, from 10 am to 5 pm.
